Afton Express Proposed Schedule Changes
The Afton Express commuter bus route launched in September 2021 and has seen great success over the past 4 years. However, the original schedule was developed prior to COVID-19, and we know commuter needs have changed coming out of the pandemic. We've made minor adjustments to the schedule over the past few years, but recognize that more significant changes are needed to continue to support our current riders and to make the Afton Express accessible to more commuters.
Using feedback from our annual rider surveys and comments received by email, we worked with our partners at UVA and our transit provider to find a solution that would serve the most people. The new schedule is provided below for public review.
Key proposed revisions include:
- Better alignment with hourly employer start times - trips that arrive just before the top of the hour for 6:00 am, 7:00 am, 8:00 am, and 9:00 am.
- More even spacing and intervals between trips
- Additional coverage during high demand times (e.g. two pick up options for folks who end work at 5 p.m. at UVA)
- Two express routes
- Now serving all three Valley stops on all trips
What's next?

The proposed schedule is anticipated to go into effect in early November pending potential adjustments based on public feedback.
