The Central Shenandoah Planning District Commission's transportation planning program provided comprehensive planning services that span urban and rural contexts across our region. It serves as a vital link between local governments and state agencies through our work with two Metropolitan Planning Organizations (MPOs), as well as a robust rural planning program that addresses the unique transportation challenges of our less densely populated areas.

Our planning approach encompasses regional initiatives, long-range strategic planning, and site-specific project development, all unified by a strong focus on safety improvements and the development of multi-modal transportation facilities that serve pedestrians, cyclists, transit users, and motorists alike. By bridging the gap between local community needs and state-level transportation policy and funding, we ensure that regional transportation planning reflects both grassroots priorities and broader strategic objectives, creating a more integrated and effective transportation network throughout the Central Shenandoah Valley.
